My career as an artist began when I was at school, and continued at art college. I progressed to teaching art locally in East London, and after a few years, moved to Australia. I again taught art, and subsequently became head of department in two large high schools over a period of twenty years, specializing in painting and printmaking. Teaching the visual arts enhanced my vision of the world and of myself.... indeed, my entire outlook. During this time I encompassed not only painting and printmaking, but also ceramics, exhibiting my work over many years. The visual arts are one of the most magical and mystic aspects of our lives. As an artist I feel privileged to be part of this mystery, and to be able to create works that talk to people. I have heard the process of creating an artwork described as a journey. I often "journey" in my paintings. At times it is not unlike a familiar car trip, where, upon arriving at the destination, chunks of the journey cannot be recalled. So it is when I paint. As the work progresses, and I survey what has been going on, there are sections of the work that I cannot remember doing! The artworks that I produce are a part of "me" - part of my journey as a mere mortal, a product of my spirituality, my dreams and thoughts.
