About Roger Phillips
My life as an artist emerged when I was at school, and continued to grow as a part of me during my years as a student at art college. I progressed to teaching art locally in East London, and after a few years, moved to Australia. I again taught art, and subsequently became head of department in two large high schools on the outskirts of Sydney, specializing in painting and printmaking.
Teaching the visual arts enhanced my vision of the world. In particular, the place of humanity as a part of our world, and how we deal with matters that are sometimes beyond our understanding.
During this time I encompassed not only painting and printmaking, but also ceramics, exhibiting my work over a number of years.
The visual arts are one of the most magical and mystic aspects of our lives. As an artist I feel privileged to be part of this mystery, and to be able to create works that involve the onlooker.
The work that I produce is a part of me, a part of my journey as a mere mortal, a product of my spirituality, my dreams and thoughts.
